Dave Levac’s Invigorating Speech at Ukraine’s Independence Day Celebration

At the celebration of Ukraine’s 26th Independence Day at Centennial Park in Toronto, organized by Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Toronto Branch on August 19, Dave Levac, MPP (Brant) and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario gave the following short, but emotional speech, which is worth providing in full: “Ladies and gentleman, it’s an honour for me to speak on behalf of the entire Legislature in Ontario. For those that know the rule – the Speaker is like a referee. So, as the referee, I wanna give Putin a two-minute penalty for the elbowing. I wanna give Putin a five minute major for fighting. I wanna give him a 10 minute misconduct. And I am gonna kick him out of the league because he is not good for the world, let alone Ukraine. It’s time for us to stand and sing this expression that has worked time and time again: “Evil only wins when good does not stand.” Thank you Ukraine for standing. You have stood against evil. For 600 years you had somebody else’s boot on your neck and you still survived, you still go forward and you still are a representative of good on this planet. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Last but not least, I wanna thank all of the organizes, the sponsors and the volunteers for making this an event that everyone wants to be at. So to all those VIPs who are here and to our spiritual leaders – thank you for standing with good. Most importantly – to all of the parents and grandparents. Thank you for bringing the children, thank you for letting them see what good does in a great country like Canada and a great country like Ukraine.”
