“Recovery Room”, the multi award-winning feature documentary film directed by Adriana Luhova and produced by Yurij Luhovy, has just been accepted as Official Selection at the 2017 Equality International Film Festival in California.

In the notification received by Ms. Luhova, it stated, “The festival will screen some of the finest cinematic works worldwide and your project exemplify our mission, vision and value.” As an Official Selection, “Recovery Room” will be screened during the Festival to participants.

The Festival will take place at Emeryville, Myers Hall, October 13-15 where official judging will take place for specialized awards.

On Sunday, October 15, a Grand Awards Ceremony will be held at Berkeley Repertory Theater in Berkeley, California. Films selected from around the world will be judged on “artistic value, cinematography, overall story line and artistic merit”.

As Ms. Luhova stated, ”I am thrilled to receive the news and to know the documentary is part of the Official Selection at this Festival. It means the film will have a broad audience during the three day Film Festival in California. It is a fantastic opportunity to further the story and increase awareness regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine, its impact and the diaspora’s humanitarian aid. “Recovery Room’s” story line fits well with this year’s festival’s focus.”

Equality International Film festival is the largest film festival on the West Coast that promotes “the efforts of talented and impassioned filmmakers in their pursuits to create film that encourages equality, and basic rights for minorities and those that are oppressed and voiceless members of the American and global community.”

This year’s theme of the Festival is “Reach, Teach and Release”; “… as the uncertainty mounts in our global framework, it is important to showcase films that increase the need for justice”.

The documentary was filmed by Adriana Luhova at the Main Military Clinical Hospital in Kyiv, Ukraine, as part of Canada’s Medical Missions (organized by Canada Ukraine Foundation and supported by the Canadian government). The documentary was edited in Montreal by Yurij Luhovy. It is based on interviews with wounded Ukrainian soldiers and Canadian and Ukrainians medical teams performing complex reconstructive surgeries for those injured from sniper fire and explosions. It shows the courage and sacrifice of the young Ukrainian soldiers defending their eastern territory against Russian aggression.

“Recovery Room” is being shown in cities across Canada and the United States.
