Ukraine’s Consul to Canada has arrived in Edmonton and is preparing for the official opening of the consulate on September 7.

“I am waiting for accreditation from the Canadian Side. I was posted as a consul with responsibility to sign agreements and open accounts till the Consul General is approved by the President. I will start to provide consular services (passports, visas, legalization and etc.) after 7th of September,” Nadia Kostenko told New Pathway – Ukrainian News.
The Edmonton consulate will have both a Consul General and a Consul and once the Permanent Consul general is appointed, Kostenko will continue to serve as Consul.

Kostenko and Ukraine’s Ambassador to Canada, Andriy Shevchenko, met with members of the Ukrainian community at the Alberta Council for Ukrainian Arts Gallery on July 9, during which Shevchenko said they have not found a permanent building for the consulate but have narrowed down the options.

He added that the Edmonton Consulate will serve the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, while Manitoba will be served by Toronto, although it is the Embassy’s position that Manitoba should be served by Edmonton.

Kostenko, whose diplomatic rank is that of Counselor, 2-nd class, was born in 1975 and graduated from the Institute of Oriental Studies and International Relations in Kharkiv in 1997.
