Fundraising Event to Assist Internally Displaced by War in Ukraine

May 5, 2015 | Newpathway, Community, Featured

Antin Sloboda, Ottawa.

The Ottawa-Gatineau Branch of The Ukrainian National Federation is cooperating with a Catholic humanitarian agency – The Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) in raising funds for internally displaced families by war in Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the conflict a year ago more than one million of Ukrainian people became internally displaced and approximately another half a million became refugees in neighboring countries. Funds are needed to buy food and basic necessities for families that are left with no resources.

On May 29th, 2015 a special fundraising breakfast will be organized in Ottawa with the goal to raise at least $10,000. The funds will be used on the ground by Caritas Ukraine to deliver help for people in need through their emergency relief centers in various locations across Ukraine. The primary fundraising target audience for this event is the Roman-Catholic and other Christian faith-based communities of the National Capital Region.

Please join us at this fundraiser. Among the event’s speakers will be Dr. Andrew Bennett, Canada’s Ambassador for Religious Freedom, Bishop Christian Riesbeck, Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ottawa, Carl Hetu, National Director of CNEWA Canada and others.

Tickets for the breakfast are sold for $100; charitable tax receipt is provided for $80. The tickets have to be purchased by May 24 via eventbrite.com (Search: Ukraine Ottawa) or by contacting CNEWA at 613-738-9666, website www. cnewa.ca

CNEWA – The Catholic Near East Welfare Association is an agency of the Holy See, with a special mission to support the Eastern Churches and peoples of the Middle East, Africa, India and Eastern Europe.

CNEWA has been present in Ukraine since 1993. Over these years it has provided help to people in need via the local civic and religious organizations. In implementation of humanitarian projects CNEWA’s main partner is Caritas Ukraine.
