Hollywood came to St. Michael parish in the form of a world movie premiere. The movie was “Christmas Miracle” and its world premiere was at St Michael’s Feast Day celebration on November 24, 2019 in Welland, Ontario.
Father Victor Nazartchyk is the Parish Administrator for St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church in Welland. He organized the Feast Day celebration that honors St. Michael the Archangel.
St. Michael arrived on a white horse. That’s what Ukrainians say if there’s snow on the St. Michael Feast Day which is November 21st on the Julian calendar. Because St. Michael is the patron saint of the Welland church, the celebration was moved to Sunday November 24th.
The Feast Day started like usual with Divine Liturgy. The Liturgy was led by Mitred Archpriest Roman Galadza from Brampton. He gave an excellent sermon recalling his days as pastor of the Welland church. The Brampton choir sang beautifully the Liturgy with the church attendees.
After Divine Liturgy, a banquet was held in the church hall. A most delicious meal was prepared by the ladies of the parish.
When the meal was completed, the movie short “Christmas Miracle” was premiered on a big screen, 4 feet by 7 feet. The church hall felt like a Hollywood movie theatre or the Golden Globe Awards.
The documentary short “Christmas Miracle” is about the children of the parish. It tells how Father Victor’s wish for ten children to attend St. Michael Church was fulfilled on January 7, 2019. After an encore performance, the movie was received with great appreciation by the people in attendance. Hollywood could not have given the movie a better reception.
