On Saturday, June 15th, Ivan Franko Homes of the Aged held its eighth annual Open House & Picnic on its premises at 3058 Winston Churchill Blvd in Mississauga, Ontario.
The tenants and guests had a varied program that suited all ages. The mouth–watering barbeque picnic was prepared by the Homes’ own volunteer chefs, the children and grown-ups benefited from various attractions: a petting zoo, pony rides, music, entertainment, a raffle, scheduled tours of the Home and surrounding property, Ukrainian music and dance performances.
Many municipal, provincial and federal politicians attended the event, including Mississauga City Councillor Ron Starr and Mississauga East MP Peter Fonseca.
At the picnic, Yuriy Diakunchak, Director of Marketing for Ukrainian Credit Union Limited presented a donation of $2,000 for the Ivan Franko Homes.
Ivan Franko Homes Executive Director Terenya Tonkovich told NP-UN that the Homes are planning a large expansion that would add some number of beds as well as a day-care and different facilities for arts and culture activities and summer camps. The expansion is supposed to provide the aged tenants with opportunities to feel more at home and in the centre of community life.
