During the Convocation ceremony at Ryerson University's G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education on June 9, James Temerty and Louise Arcand Temerty of Northland Power received the joint degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa from the University.
James and Louise Temerty are the co-chairs of the Temerty Family Foundation, which has made significant philanthropic contributions toward health care, education, and culture. James Temerty is founder of the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter organisation. In 2014, the Foundation donated over $5 million to the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv.
In addition to this they support a number of endowments and scholarships at the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Royal Conservatory of Music. The Foundation has established the Louise Temerty Breast Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital, the James and Louise Temerty Galleries of the Age of the Dinosaurs at the ROM, the Temerty-Chang International Centre for Telesimulation and Innovation in Medical Education at the University Health Network, and the Temerty Centre for Therapeutic Brain Intervention at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
