Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation, Toronto.

This year the first, unprecedented Comprehensive Campaign of the Ukrainian Catholic University “A New Generation for a New Ukraine” is coming to an end. On this occasion, the USA and Canada are hosting fundraising events that gather dedicated supporters who understand the importance of a quality higher education for the development of Ukrainian society.

Western cities, Calgary and Los Angeles, have already hosted such gatherings of friends. Still to come: Montreal (5 November), Toronto and New York (6 November), Vancouver (11 November), and Kyiv (3 December).

When UCU began its Comprehensive Campaign in 2010, many thought this task would be impossible. The University had 2 faculties and six main educational programs. Thanks to the support of benefactors from various countries and continents, in seven years the following have been built: an innovative student residence (the Collegium), a multi-purpose academic building, the unique University Church of the Holy Wisdom of God, and construction has begun on the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Center.

UCU has significantly expanded its instructional, research, and formational programs. The University now has six faculties, eight bachelor’s and 19 graduate degree programs, and 22 educational institutes and centers.

However, buildings are not the main thing but what happens there: the formation of a new generation, education, research and social work, and spiritual life.

“I thank you for being among those who help us fulfill great dreams and plans. They are not only our dreams. UCU’s graduates, the University’s greatest achievement, work and serve in various areas. They make their contributions to the transformation of society and Ukraine,” emphasizes Bishop Borys Gudziak, UCU’s President.

In the words of the President of the University, work on rebuilding Ukraine and forming a new generation has only begun: “The campaign is finishing, but this is far from the end. This is only one, initial stage. UCU will continue to ‘aspire to greatness,’ to witness and serve, to form a new generation for a new Ukraine. We invite you to dream and to fulfill dreams with us.”

The Ukrainian Catholic University, Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation, and Friends of UCU Committees in Canada and the USA invite you to join in the discussion in your city about rebuilding Ukraine.

Honored guests at this year’s fundraising events to support the Ukrainian Catholic University are: Ukrainian Minister of Education and Science Liliya Hrynevych; Ukrainian Minister of Finance (2014-2016) Natalie Jaresko; noted TV journalist, essayist and investigator, senior reporter of the W-Five program of channel CTV Victor Malarek; the architect of the Polish economic transformation of the early 1990s, Professor Leszek Balcerowicz of the Warsaw School of Economics; UCU President Bishop Borys Gudziak; and UCU Rector Fr. Bohdan Prach.

Dr. Liliya Hrynevych was a Senator of the University and observed its rapid development:

“Before my eyes the fulfillment of great, inspired dreams has occurred. The leader in these dreams was UCU’s President, Bishop Borys Gudziak. These dreams had a great history, a whole list of personalities in the Church who believed in this university. These dreams had a team that built and build them. As Minister I want to testify that UCU is a leading non-government institution which is very popular and demanding. Young people with top scores come here. This is for us today a source of valuable ideas and academic honesty,” admits Ukraine’s Minister of Education and Science.

Our guests at the events will enjoy the music and warm songs of Oksana Mukha, Sofiya Fedyna, and Serhiy Fomenko, leader of the popular group Mandry and better known as “Foma.”
