Taking place at the beautifully decorated St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church Hall on Leeds St. January 24, 2015, the Kosa Kolektiv Melanka was celebrated with many friends in attendance. Everyone wore traditional embroidered shirts or some variation of their own culture's national clothing.
Kosa Carolers started the evening with koliady that they had learned through many singing workshops that had taken place in the past several weeks. They were then joined by friends Ukrainian Village Voices from New York with more carols. Guests dined on delicious varenyky, borsht, patychky and salmon catered by Babypoint. Salads and garlic bread were also made by community members. Korinya, a Ukrainian folk band from New York led the community in delightful and energetic village dance workshops.
Later in the evening, the guests were surprised by a Belarussian folk group who caroled in fantastic costumes: a dancing bear, stork, and even a goat! Lemon Bucket Orkestra also played some dance songs during the zabava portion. At the end of the evening “Melanka” was thrown out of the party signifying the start of a new year.
Kosa Kolektiv would like to thank all the community members for gathering to create such a delightful event. Visit www.kosakolektiv.com to see what's next for this folk group!
