On Monday, April 11, MPP Yvan Baker (Etobicoke Centre) hosted Mykola Nyzhnykivskyi, his mother Alla, and Krystina Waler from the Canada-Ukraine Foundation at Queen's Park.
MPP Baker spent hours with Mykola giving him a full tour of the iconic building in Toronto's city centre. Mykola was extremely interested in the building's history, architecture and artifacts. He visited with many MPPs and staff from Queen's Park.
Mykola was warmly greeted by Ontario's Premier Kathleen Wynne and the Leader of the Ontario PC Party, Patrick Brown. He and Alla also attended Question Period where, during introductions of guests, Mykola received a standing ovation from all Members of Provincial Parliament.
Mykola was in Toronto for the weekend attending a birthday party fundraiser at Legoland, located in Vaughan. Legoland generously donated a birthday party for Mykola who recently turned 12. The fundraiser raised almost $2,000.
Mykola's care team at Shriners Hospital estimates that, if funding allows, he should return to Montreal every year until he reaches adulthood for new prosthetics and treatment.
Shriners Hospital covers all costs associated with his medical care.
The Canada-Ukraine Foundation has taken on the responsibility of all travel, accommodation, and incidental costs. The Foundation is also looking into what private therapies are available for Mykola upon his return to Ukraine.
