Ottawa celebrates Ukrainian culture with the world with an online Capital Ukrainian Festival!

Svitanok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble

Capital Ukrainian Festival.

The Capital Ukrainian Festival was pleased to provide a safe online experience to share Ukrainian culture. On Saturday July 25, our social media accounts shared music, dance, sand animation (yup, you heard that right), a film showing of the documentary, A School in the Clouds, fun festival facts, and an outstanding virtual Zabava. We even shared the reveal of the new Yevshan online store, with a special festival discount.

After our opening greetings, the dancers from Svitanok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble provided a most delightful performance from Ottawa’s most iconic view, Parliament Hill.

Next up, the ladies of Kolizhanky provided a most excellent performance, all while practising safe health practices.

The next surprise performer was Auresia, who joined us live from Montreal. Auresia sang on our main stage in 2019 and has recently put out some new Ukrainian music.

The festival held an online cooking competition and the result was a tie! The dueling bowls of borsch were both deserving of the new cookbook from Olia Hercules. Congratulations Khrystia and Christina. Great big thank you to celebrity chef Olia for agreeing to be our judge. Her cookbook, Summer Kitchens is available right now.

Our evening closed out with the Zabava performance by Zirka. A super exciting online concert viewed by thousands of people around the world. From Australia to Boston to British Columbia, people of all ages were thrilled to be entertained, one more time.

We had many other performers participate. Head over to our Facebook page and take a look. We were surprised with the incredible talent that was shared with us.

Great big thank you to …

So many people supported this effort. We only started a couple of weeks ago and we were pleasantly surprised on so many levels. Thank you so much to …. our performers, the incredible audience, all those who shared our event, Custom Design and Print and Razom Media for the beautiful graphics, Boris and Ihor from the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Ottawa Branch, Ambassador Andrij Shevchenko, Vince and Steven from Cobblestone Freeway Tours, Ottawa Festivals, and our wonderful community around the world. After six years of incredible memories, we also want to recognize all the sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and our Ottawa community for years of super awesome support. Дуже дякую!

Remember to keep watching us on social media. The Festival has a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube accounts. Take some time and go look through our timeline of old posts. You might have missed some information we have posted.
