Bohdana Bashuk, Assistant Executive Director, Shevchenko Foundation, Winnipeg.

On June 24, 2018 the Shevchenko Foundation paid special tribute to Olyne Patryluk and Family of Regina, SK for their pledge of $250,000 in support of various designated organizations, and to establish the Patryluk Dance Program Fund – Saskatchewan.
Shevchenko Foundation Director Adrian Boyko welcomed special guest Ken Krawetz, Chief of Staff to the Premier of Saskatchewan Scott Moe, who brought greetings on behalf of the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, Thomas Molloy. In his message the Lieutenant Governor cited the philanthropic leadership of the Shevchenko Foundation and families such as the Patryluks:

A Message from His Honour

The Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan

It is my sincere pleasure to extend greeting on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, to everyone gathered to celebrate the outstanding generosity of the Patryluk Family to the Shevchenko Foundation.

It must have been remarkable when, 57 years ago, 25,000 Ukrainian Canadians gathered in Winnipeg for the unveiling of the Taras Shevchenko monument. It is a monument that celebrates the extraordinary impact of the Ukrainian community on our nation.

I am proud to say that I knew the late Sylvia Fedoruk, who was a ground-breaking physicist, a skilled athlete, and Saskatchewan’s first female Lieutenant Governor. I also knew the Honourable Ed Bayda, Saskatchewan’s Chief Justice for 25 years. Roy Romanow, Saskatchewan’s Premier for 10 years, is a good friend. These are but 3 Ukrainian Canadians who have made significant contributions to our province.

I wish to express my gratitude to the Shevchenko Foundation for building a legacy that was begun in 1961 when the impressive monument was unveiled in Winnipeg. Thank you for celebrating all the Ukrainian Canadians have, and continue to do, for our country.
Finally, I am truly grateful to the Patryluk Family for joining the Shevchenko Foundation in this valuable work. Thank you for your philanthropic leadership – you are shining examples of generosity and vision.

Please accept my best wishes for a joyous celebration.

W. Thomas Malloy
Lieutenant Governor
Province of Saskatchewan

In the company of family and friends who attended the gathering at Selo Gardens, Mrs. Olyne Patryluk spoke of the great enjoyment she and her late husband Alex derived from performing together over the years with various Ukrainian cultural groups in her community, and how important it was for her family to maintain Ukrainian culture and traditions.

Andrew Hladyshevsky, Q.C., President of the Shevchenko Foundation accepted the cheque from Mrs. Olyne Patryluk, and spoke of how donations and pledges such as those made by the Patryluk Family make an impact on the work of the Shevchenko Foundation in funding projects to organizations and individuals from coast to coast.
