Current Ontario MPPs speak 19 different languages, it is the most diverse caucus in the history of Ontario Parliament. MPP Parm Gill (Milton, ON) reminded of this the room-full of ethnic media representatives at Premier Doug Ford’s Cultural Media Appreciation Reception that took place in Mississauga, ON on Mon., January 20.
Premier Ford started off his address with the notion that there is a disproportion between the provincial government funding allocated to the mainstream and ethnic media outlets.
“Something is not fair here,” he said. His announcement “That’s changed” was met by enthusiastic applause by the audience. “Finally”, “Appreciate it”, “Keep up the good work” were among the exclamations from the ethic media representatives.
Doug Ford promised to inform soon how exactly the advertising is going to be distributed between different media. The distribution will be “proportional and representative of our communities,” he said.
Premier said that he loves the ethnic media and provided the reasons why:
“You folks are real, you get it. It all started back with my brother Rob [former Toronto Mayor]. Most of you here have been in our back yard and shared great time with our family. I just want to tell you how grateful I am for not just the job you do but for our friendship over the years.”
Doug Ford promised to have another barbeque for the ethnic media at his Etobicoke home this summer.
