The Board of Directors of the Shevchenko Foundation announces the creation of a new, limited-time COVID-19 Relief Funding initiative, to support small not-for-profit community organizations as well as individuals working in the arts and culture sector during this COVID-19 pandemic.

The Shevchenko Foundation recognizes that the activities of small organizations and individuals working in the Arts sector have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many have experienced loss of income due to falling membership, unavailability of performance venues, cancellation of fundraising events, and other reasons associated with the restrictions imposed as a result of COVID-19 regional protocols.

“We are a resilient people, having overcome adversity in our journey as a community in Canada. We are also a compassionate community, helping each other in times of crisis and need. The COVID-19 pandemic is that crisis now, and we want to help. The Shevchenko Foundation has launched this new funding initiative to help support organizations and individuals who are being innovative and creative in engaging with their membership and audiences during the pandemic,” said Andriy Hladyshevsky, Q.C., President, Shevchenko Foundation.

The Shevchenko Foundation has committed $25,000 to support this initiative.

This fund will be open to small organizations, with an annual operating budget under $50 thousand dollars, and to individuals working in the arts and culture sector, whose practice has been negatively impacted by COVID-19.

“Our survey of organizations and individuals has shown that there is a need for help with such things as presenting virtual performances, configuring spaces to conform with new restrictions and regulations, implementing programming to keep members and volunteers engaged, and so much more,” said Bohdana Bashuk, Executive Director, Shevchenko Foundation.

Support, in the amount of $500, will be available for such things as helping to pay rent for other than residence spaces, internet upgrades and computer software, hiring a facilitator for strategic planning, configuring space in compliance with following regional COVID-19 protocols, keeping audiences engaged virtually, and other similar needs.

Applicants can apply online through the Shevchenko Foundation website until February 15, 2021.
