Shevchenko Foundation: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

May 27, 2020 | Featured, Jobs

For the position of Chair of the Canadian First World War Internment Recognition Fund.

The Shevchenko Foundation is seeking a Chair for the Canadian First World War Internment Recognition Fund (CFWWIRF) to serve for a minimum of one year with subsequent reappointment for additional terms.

The Canadian First World War Internment Recognition Fund exists to support projects that commemorate and recognize the experiences of all the ethno-cultural communities affected by Canada’s first national internment operations of 1914-1920.

The Chair must have experience in conducting the Endowment Council to ensure it carries out its mandate and objectives as governed by the Government Agreement.

The candidate credentials must include academic experience related to the Canada’s first national internment operations of 1914 to 1920 or other similar relevant experience.

During Canada’s first national internment operations of 1914 to 1920 thousands of men, women and children were branded as “enemy aliens.” Many were imprisoned. Stripped of what little wealth they had, forced to do heavy labour in Canada’s hinterlands, they were also disenfranchised and subjected to other state sanctioned censures not because of anything they had done but only because of where they had come from, who they were.

In May 2008, representatives of the Ukrainian Community reached an agreement with the Government of Canada providing for the creation of an endowment fund to support commemorative, educational, scholarly and cultural projects intended to remind all Canadians of this episode in our nations’ history.

The position of Chair shall not represent the interests of any ethno-cultural community affected by the First World War Internment.

The Chair shall have experience in the development of strategies, objectives, experience in human resources or knowledge of human resources applications.

An individual with an Institute of Corporate Directors Designation, or equivalent, is desired, but not required.
