Team of Ukrainian Students in the Final of Queen’s Innovation Challenge

Bank of Montreal selected a team of MSc in Data Science of Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) students as the winner of the semi-final round of Queen's Innovation Challenge. The competition brought together enrolled students from several Colleges and Universities from around the world. A team of UCU students is one of the 6 finalists.

The competition was open to any student enrolled in a post-secondary academic program. Each of the 7 companies – Scotiabank, RBC, TD, BMO, Spirit of Math, Loblaws and Canadian Tire – supplied a business problem in the form of a case study for students to solve, along with one or multiple datasets.

The competition is officially an international challenge with the winning team receiving a $20,000 CDN cash prize. The finale will be held at the Scotia Plaza in Toronto on Friday November 25, 2016.

Student participation in this contest was suggested by Oleksandr Romanko (IBM, Canada) who teaches Intro to Data Science Course on UCU Data Science Master Program.

UCU MSc in Data Science is the first interdisciplinary Data Science program in Ukraine. Its aim is to develop high qualified and value-oriented professionals and leaders of Ukrainian society and to meet the demand of IT industry.

The Master's Program in Computer Science/Data Science gives qualitative knowledge and skills in programming, data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data system architecture, product development as well as offers leadership and self-development courses for its students.

The academic program is conducted in English. 50% of the faculty are from France, Germany Canada, USA and Australia universities and companies.
