UCU Scholarships Awarded

On May 14, 2015, the Ukrainian Credit Union Limited's Scholarship Committee (Walter Kish, Olya Sheweli and Slawko Borys) awarded 2015 UCU Scholarships. The ceremony took place in the KUMF Gallery on 145 Evans Ave. in Toronto.

The recepients of the UCU 2015 Community Leadership Awards are:

Larissa Warywoda (Thunder Bay): a student at Lakehead University – BsC Nursing, a community volunteer, member of Chaban Dance School and counselor at Break For Jesus Camps.

Peter Tanchak (Toronto): a student at UofT Munk School of Global Affairs, volunteer active with St. Demetrius Parish, member of Yavir School of Dance, participant of Paul Yuzyk Institute for Youth Leadership.

Yuriy Dunets (Toronto): a student at University of Toronto at Mississauga – Commerce, UNYF Member & Member of UNF Toronto Finance Committee, volunteer with Canadian Ukrainian Immigrant Aid Society Youth.

Viktoriya Zabigaylo (Mississauga): a student of McMaster University – Honours Biology, organizer of UNF Soniashnyk Day Camps, organizer of UNF Dorist Program 2012-13 and organizer of UNF Ivana Kupala.

Kathryn Brechun (Mississauga): a student of Carleton University – Earth Sciences, Youth Leader with Ukrainian Youth Associaiton (SUM) and camp councillor at Veselka (CYM).

Olesya Pogorelova (Toronto): a student of Univerisity of Toronto – Political Science & Economics, UNYF West Toronto Member, UNF Camp Sokil Councillor & Life Guard, and participant of of Paul Yuzyk Institute Youth Leadership Program

Oksana Kaczala: a student of Guelph University – Biochemistry, member of Barvinok Dance School and member & camp councillor at CYM

This year's Board Chair’s Scholarship's holder is Emily Bayrachny (UofT – BA – European Studies), a community volunteer with UCC. She has four published works at UofT on Central & East European topics and is on the Deans List at UofT. She is an activist with Euromaidan Canada and participant of of Paul Yuzyk Institute Youth Leadership Program.

Stefanie Masliwec (Toronto) received Wasyl Sytnyk Memorial Scholarship. She is a student of Queens University (Commerce), active member of Arkan Dance Company and St. Demetrius Church, a founder of Brad Confidence – project to help women of abuse learn new sustainable skills.

Borys Ostapienko (Toronto) received Michael Rebryk Memorial Scholarship. He is a student at Ryerson University (Biomedical Engineering), an active member of Canadian Bandurist Capella, a music teacher and community volunteer.
