Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has welcomed Canada's ratification of Joint Audiovisual Production Agreement with Ukraine, reported his press service on December 12. The document will enter into force on January 1, 2021.
“I am grateful to Canada and personally to the Prime Minister, Mr. Trudeau, for completing all the procedures required for this agreement to enter into force. It provides new powerful opportunities for the development of the TV and film industry in Ukraine, for the joint production of audiovisual content and distribution of projects on the international market. I am confident that this will make our bilateral cooperation even more fruitful and the ties between the people of our countries even closer,” the President said.
Under the joint production agreement, Ukrainian producers will be able to obtain budget support, tax benefits and discounts for distribution in Canada. Canadian TV and film producers who will shoot films in Ukraine will also have the appropriate support.
The agreement was signed during the visit of Zelenskyy to Canada in July 2019. The Verkhovna Rada ratified the document in September 2020.
